My dear friend, Bahar, is extremely well informed in terms of eco-friendly fashion. She has the only sustainable showroom in New York, The Four Hundred, which houses her amazing designs under her name Bahar Shapar. If your have been confused about terms like ‘green’ and ’sustainable’ fashion or ‘vegan leather’ definitely read this chat. She was answering tough questions today with the editor of Sprig on washingtonpost.com

Couple of fun fashion blogs to check out.

NEWSNEWSNEWSNEWS

My childhood-best-friend’s husband (whew!) is an amazing chef. How lucky is she! He also makes all the food for their toddler. Everything fresh, organic, and easy to prepare when he is not at home. He realized the desire of other parents to want the same for their children but who are also short on time. Video presentation is such a great medium because you can see everything being made. Go to chefandfather.com to watch the trailer of greg’s soon to be video which is better quality than the embedded YouTube video below:

Daily Candy, the insiders guide to what is cool and new, is launching their kid site.

Call to Artists/Writers!

Twig is seeking local artists to contribute zines and coloring books to sell at TWIG. Age appropriate, simple, zines for babies, toddlers, and kids is the style I am seeking. Even if you have never done a magazine or a coloring book, you could still be a perfect canidate! I will either do a collection of artists or feature each artist separately. Email TWIG for an appointment. Thanks!!!

Enjoy the last of summer and I will see you soon!

All these great stores will take over the parking lot next to Plum Shoes in Madison Valley [map], 2913 E Madison St from 10am to 5pm. Bring your sunblock (finally we’re supposed to get 80+ degree weather this weekend!) and get there early for the best deals will go quickly, I’m sure!

A few New Items and Reminders…

TWIG recently received the cutest tee shirts for all you breeding Washingtonians. Chirp and Tweet ‘Grown in Washington’ organic tee’s are great gifts and fun for your little ones to rock. Available in sizes 6mo to 4T.

During Greenwood artwalk, TWIG featured artist Kasee Quinn’s new work. Collages of bright owls made of fabric, paper, and modge podge have the retro but modern feel. We received such a great response she recently added more owls and added crows. All will be available for the remainder of the summer. They are one of a kind, so when they are gone, they are gone. Prices starting at $100. For a little extra, Kasee will do custom collages and you can choose your color, background, bird etc. Call the shop for details and I will hook you up!

Two big events are affecting TWIG’s life this weekend. The 16th annual Greenwood Car Show and the 1st annual Children’s Boutique Sale.

The Greenwood Car Show began in 1992 with a small group of dedicated car enthusiasts and has grown with each new year. The show has become one of the landmark car shows for summer here in the Northwest. Over the years, the show has grown from simply cars to a variety of other festive activities including merchant and food vendors, a kids zone, and other adjunct activities

described by the Greenwood-Phinney Chamber.

Bonus: the Eco-Friendly cars will be parked in TWIG’s parking lot at 83rd and Greenwood. This includes everything you want to know about bio-diesel and electric cars. Stop by!

Lastly, I believe the most important event of the summer is the big Childrens Boutique Sale! Fifteen shops (yep, that’s what I said) coming together for one day only outside Plum Shoes in Madison to purge their back rooms. Sounds gruesome but it is a shoppers paradise. Check out Red Tricycle for more details.

See you there!!!!

P.S. The sun finally came to Seattle!!!!!!

Grey is the new summer….

Seriously, is this the gloomiest summer we have ever had ever or am I just under the weather (hahaha).

Well, that is it!

I am putting things on sale, just to put a sunny smile on your face! Let’s see…Tea Collection Dresses, Lunchbox Designs, Hula Mula dresses and rompers…..what else….Kasle denim! I am being drastic here, so come in and take advantage of me! You can see one of the hulu mula dresses from TWIG at Small Magazine’s summer issue. It’s super cute.

While we are on the topic of sales, there is going to be the sale of the year at the end of this month. The Children’s Boutique Sale is the first one of its kind spearheaded by the wonderful shopowner of Plum Shoes in Madison. She wanted to move 5 years of back-stock (shew!) and asked a couple of freinds if they wanted to sell their extra stock in the parking lot outside of her shop. Well, the idea spread and now there are 14 shops involved. This is a great time to stock up for your little ones. I am personally very excited to meet all of the owners and I love to one-stop-shop! View ad below.  See you soon!

Twig and China

child1.jpg

China has been getting a very bad rap for their poor working conditions and toxic factories. Although some of the rumors are true and heartbreaking, there are many factories that use humane labor practices and provide living wages for Chinese families. Twig carries a few brands that are produced in China - they are sweatshop and cruelty free.

The devastating earthquake in China has really been on my mind lately - I wonder if the people who made these cute little clothes are okay. So, from today until an announced date, Twig is donating 15% of purchases on merchandise made in China to the Mercycorps relief fund. Every little bit helps. Brands include Babylegs, All Weather Woobee, EGG baby, and a few more.

I will put a gold star on qualifying items, but feel free to ask in case I miss one!

Here is a recent Guardian article covering how children have been affected by the earthquake.

warm regards,

angela

April showers bring May flowers…

Happy month of May. Definitely one of my favorite months. Blooming flowers, Spring fever, babies being born….

Greenwood Artwalk is this Friday and Saturday, May 9th (5pm to 9pm) and 10th (11-5pm). We will be featuring up and coming artists Eric Johnson and Kasee Quinn. Great paintings for your little ones room or any where in your home. We will be offering wine, juice and snacks for everyone. Please, stop by.

image001.gifAlso, My super husband will be showing art up and down Greenwood Ave. Literally! Neptune Coffee House (85th and Greenwood) is featuring Goldhick Crystals and Olivers Twist is featuring Empire Studios.

Wee-go Glass bottles have been extremely popular. Babylife, the company behind wee-go is back ordered until the end of May so Twig will be taking pre-orders for the next shipment.
Fig Organics has arrived! Plush bright organic separates for girls and boys. I am especially fond of Fig’s capri’s and the board shorts. Plus, they make the most adorable unisex underwear sets!

Don’t forget Mother’s Day!!pt_e202.jpgimages.jpeg

We have belly oils and butters for mom’s to be. You could surprise her with a tiny onesie and matching socks just to say “can you believe we will have a little person to fit into these little clothes?!” We will do special gift wrapping all weekend.

Happy May,

Angela

A little from the past and present

I really enjoy mixing vintage finds with new pieces and it is fun to translate this to kids-wear. I am very excited to introduce my new addition. Vintage! I just brought out my first bit of 60’s-80’s clothing and it is super cute. Look for the ‘vintage twig’ tag.

17.jpgDagmar Daley arrived and I’m in love. 15.jpgThe pearl baby dress is precious and her cotton bloomers are a classic in silkened cotton. I also am totally impressed with the way she cut her dungarees. The perfect combination of classic and modern.

bottlesintro1.jpg There has been quite a bit of buzz about using alternatives to plastic especially in bottles. Twig carries the wee.go line of glass baby bottles. The non-slip silicone sleeves comes in 6 different colors and these bisphenol A-free bottles are only available here.

Angela :)

p.s. Don’t miss the Green Festival, hosted in Seattle this weekend (4/12-4/13), the nations premier sustainability event. Packed with exhibits and workshops, it is family friendly with food and kids activities. I’ll see you there.

Spring, shoes, imps & elfs…

I am so glad it quit snowing! Now kids can finally sport their Tiny Toms Shoes. Toms launched a kids line last season and they are just the cutest shoes ever. The traditional Argentinean shoe is made from durable canvas that slip on easily. The best part is, for every shoe you buy, TOM’s donates a pair to a child. Awesome! Available in sizes 4-10.

buffalo tiny tomsnavy tiny tomsredd dot tiny toms

I must say that I am just taken by Imps & Elfs separates. The Organic line from Denmark has wonderful basics with great design. Plus, the darker colors are always in style and mix and match with everything. We recently received striped pants, beanies, and tops in slate, gray and chocolate.

Imps & Elfs originated in 1997 as a modest childrens’ line without frills or fancies, which concentrate on the shape of the child.

The company works with MADE-BY to ensure 100% child free labor practices and fair trade standards are met.

I admire their smile. I admire their pureness. I admire their happiness. I admire their sense of humor. I admire children for being the most precious gifts on earth. quoted by Jacueline Streng, designer, Imps&Elfs

I love wearing terry cloth in the sun. It evokes feelings of movement and a laid back style perfect for spring. Let’s dress our most precious gifts on earth in Imps & Elfs super basics in organic terry. Featuring: lounge pants, rompers, and polos.
