TWIG open for Greenwood Artwalk and Seattle Summer Streets!!!

TWIG will be featuring fantastic painter Todd Karam for Greenwood Artwalk and Seattle Summer Streets on Friday, April 10th from 6-9pm. This event is going to be a blast and very kid friendly because the streets will be closed from 65th to 87th! Seattle Summer Streets is presented by Mayor Greg Nichol’s to highlight local neighborhoods and get the community, well, back into their community!! Here is an excerpt from the City Council’s announcement:

SEATTLE – Mayor Greg Nickels today announced this summer’s schedule of street festivals.
Celebrate Seattle Summer Streets will open up streets to pedestrians and bicyclists, offering
people a way to have fun, celebrate the spirit and personality of their neighborhood, and support local businesses. Each event is organized by a local group.

“The community is leading the way, putting together events that bring us all together,” said
Nickels. “Biking, walking, drawing chalk pictures, taking in the sights or shopping and eating at
local establishments, Celebrate Seattle Summer Streets is a great way to spend time with family
and friends.”

The Greenwood neighborhood will kick off this celebration.

The Greenwood/Phinney Chamber is hosting a Seattle Summer Streets Party along with its monthly Art Up/Open Up event. Stroll the streets, visit local businesses and view community art. Use chalk to create your own art on the pavement, talk with your neighbors and enjoy dinner at a local restaurant.

See you on Friday!!!

TWIG is Changing….Join us on Jan. 31st and Feb 1st. for our Transition Party

Hello Friends and Family!

It is an exciting time - 2009. Change.

It seems as if our entire way of thinking has been challenged both socially and economically. We all know of someone being laid off or unable to pay his or her mortgage. It is everywhere and unfortunately, Twig Children’s Boutique has felt the impact of the financial crisis as well.

Twig will be closing its Greenwood retail shop on February 1st as our sales are unable to keep up with overhead costs.

But we are hopeful.

We remain dedicated to our vision of offering environmentally friendly, local and designer clothing! We still believe that our little mom-run shop is filling an important role and so we will be building an online store so you will still have access to a well-edited selection of kid’s products from small responsible manufacturers and local designers.

Join us for our Grand Sale and Closing Party!

Saturday, January 31st and Sunday, February 1st All the merchandise will be marked down 40% - 70% and we will celebrate this change! Please join me to shop, say hello, and support TWIG’s transition!

Again, I am hopeful! I want to support my vision and have it available to all of you.

Go to twigseattle.com and sign up at to receive updates and follow the future of TWIG Children’s Boutique.

Thank you! Angela

Vibrant oranges, yellows, and red, white and blues!

Is this Fall not the most beautiful one we have ever had? The leaves are more vibrant then I have ever seen! I love seeing bright yellow leaved trees popping out between the evergreens and deep orange and red leaves scattered all over the ground. Our kids can actually enjoy a real leaf pile this year. Dive in!

Today is an especially vibrant red, white, and blue day: Election Day!! I know we have all been effected by the economy the last few months and so today is a very important day for all of us, our nations history, and how it will effect our lives and our children’s lives for the next 4 years.

The first thing to be effected when the economy gets tight is shopping. Of course! It is hard to spend money shopping when we are unsure of what the future holds. That said, when we do shop, it is so important to exchange your precious dollars with small businesses. Seattle is filled with independent shops that we all adore and love and need. By supporting small local businesses you are supporting fair wages and keeping the money you do spend circulating in your local economy. These small businesses are what give our city its character. I don’t think I have ever heard someone boast “come to Seattle! I’ve got to take you to our Walmart! it is so cool!”

Twig will be helping you stretch your dollars and have fun at the same time. We’lI be offering classes throughout Fall and Winter here at TWIG. Knitting, sewing, cross-stitch, writing, and more to help you with do-it-yourself projects for this holiday season. How fun would it be to monogram all of your child’s clothing or make him/her a plush animal?! Doing things together in a group is a great way to feel connected with others. Being creative is so important in keeping us sane. Twig will even offer kits for the projects to keep it as simple as possible. I will be posting a schedule soon.

A new shipment of Kate Quinn will arrive soon as well as wee-go glass bottles, including the four ounce size. yeah!

Warmest,

Angela

She has the only sustainable showroom in New York, The Four Hundred, which houses her amazing designs under her name Bahar Shapar. If your have been confused about terms like ‘green’ and ’sustainable’ fashion or ‘vegan leather’ definitely read this chat. She was answering tough questions today with the editor of Sprig on washingtonpost.com

All these great stores will take over the parking lot next to Plum Shoes in Madison Valley [map], 2913 E Madison St from 10am to 5pm. Bring your sunblock (finally we’re supposed to get 80+ degree weather this weekend!) and get there early for the best deals will go quickly, I’m sure!

A few New Items and Reminders…

TWIG recently received the cutest tee shirts for all you breeding Washingtonians. Chirp and Tweet ‘Grown in Washington’ organic tee’s are great gifts and fun for your little ones to rock. Available in sizes 6mo to 4T.

During Greenwood artwalk, TWIG featured artist Kasee Quinn’s new work. Collages of bright owls made of fabric, paper, and modge podge have the retro but modern feel. We received such a great response she recently added more owls and added crows. All will be available for the remainder of the summer. They are one of a kind, so when they are gone, they are gone. Prices starting at $100. For a little extra, Kasee will do custom collages and you can choose your color, background, bird etc. Call the shop for details and I will hook you up!

Two big events are affecting TWIG’s life this weekend. The 16th annual Greenwood Car Show and the 1st annual Children’s Boutique Sale.

The Greenwood Car Show began in 1992 with a small group of dedicated car enthusiasts and has grown with each new year. The show has become one of the landmark car shows for summer here in the Northwest. Over the years, the show has grown from simply cars to a variety of other festive activities including merchant and food vendors, a kids zone, and other adjunct activities

described by the Greenwood-Phinney Chamber.

Bonus: the Eco-Friendly cars will be parked in TWIG’s parking lot at 83rd and Greenwood. This includes everything you want to know about bio-diesel and electric cars. Stop by!

Lastly, I believe the most important event of the summer is the big Childrens Boutique Sale! Fifteen shops (yep, that’s what I said) coming together for one day only outside Plum Shoes in Madison to purge their back rooms. Sounds gruesome but it is a shoppers paradise. Check out Red Tricycle for more details.

See you there!!!!
